Will it always be the case that every article about Chautauqua starts by calling it America’s best kept secret? Part of me hopes so, in the sense that this idyllic spot will better be able to retain its timeless charm. But a forthcoming PBS special and a growing word of mouth awareness is certain to increase the visibility of this 135 year old landmark.

There is something so timeless about watching a Greek tragedy on stage that resonates with the present. Author Euripides had his pulse on the human condition way before contemporary writers knew what it was. Just when you think the story is going one way he switches it up and presents another unknown human emotion that no one has thought of before.

David James Elliott looked very proud wearing his Navy uniform when he portrayed Commander Harmon Rabb on JAG. But Elliott is now seen on the ABC summer series Scoundrels and he’s wearing a different outfit. It’s a prison uniform, in which he doesn’t look nearly as proud, but he’s having fun anyway.

Frazey Ford really is the most adorable person on the stage tonight at the Hotel Cafe, switching guitars and playing back and forth with her band, bass, drums, banjo, harmonica (courtesy of the almost as adorable Trish Klein). The feeling is one of mellow, almost countryish sadness, a little Mazzy Star, a lot of late 60s and early 70s soul. A few songs are without drums at all, most amble along barely above a living pulse, but the songs are strong and sweet and hopeful and, still, melancholy. The audience sways, smiles. The vibe is peaceful.

Buca di Beppo opened its doors in Santa Monica about 10-years ago and the crowds came. It's a collection of neighborhood places that have created an atmosphere of shark‑frenzy. It’s also tongue‑in‑cheek humor and portions of food that could feed the entire "old neighborhood" in the Southern part of Italy.

Mother, the word conjures up many images; some good, and some you rather not remember. Actress Mary-Beth Manning gives a little bit of both scenarios in her one-woman show. “Mother, She’s with you wherever you Go…” and isn’t that the prophetic truth. It doesn’t matter if you’re six-years-old or a grown woman with a brood of your own, mother, mom, mama, moms sneaks into your insides, your personality, then, the next thing you know, her voice is coming out your mouth. That’s the power of Mother

Writer, actress and producer Kristin Stone has returned her wonderful and addictive show “Inside Private Lives” to Los Angeles, well, actually in Pasadena. This show, if you haven’t heard about it by now, is where the phrase ‘I see dead people’ originated. Not only do you see famous people from the past, they interact with the audience as they each tell their story. Stone has a rotation of “celebrities” speaking their peace and explaining their faux pas.
